Focus

How, Gentle reader, do you focus on the task in front of you? What tricks to you play on yourself to get things done?

Personally, I like deadlines and due dates – it gives me something to be accountable for, but when it’s me giving me the deadline, I’m usually ok with giving me an extension.

I would love to know how you do it…

For longer projects, I mentally break things down. For example, draw a panel of the comic, or write for an hour (and I set my iphone timer).

Larger goals are accomplished by working at them every day.

Sadly, I generally don’t do it. I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately and haven’t been able to get anything done. Generally I have a To Do List…but I rarely complete it before starting a new one.

multi-tasking!! even now i’m doing three different things at once…eating, typing this and completing the rest of my morning internet thing (email, facebook, textsfromlastnight.com etc)
also…music is always on…cant focus without it

I keep a running To DO list in a steno notebook, and cross them off when I am done with things. I always kept it in sight, so I am reminded of all the things I still have to do! It is a great feeling when I can cross something off the list!

    I project forward…
I picture what it would be like if I did the thing in question and then I picture what it would be like if I didn’t do it. I compare the two scenarios and I go with the one that has the better outcome.
It gets me to work out every time.
