Interview w/James Lipton

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

After an entire day of Inside the Actors Studio reruns, one of my favorite bloggers decided to answer the Bernard Pivot questions, based on the Proust Questionnaire, that James Lipton asks his guest at the end of  every show – I figure it’s good practice for me too, since I’m sure, one day, I’ll be on the show, imparting my wisdom…

The following are my  answers and exactly what I would say if I were sitting across from Mr Lipton.

1. What is your favorite word? Microwave – pronounced: MY-crow-wave…

2. What is your least favorite word? Can’t

3. What turns you on? Strength

4. What turns you off? Hopeless stupidity.

5. What sound or noise do you love? Molly, my cat, has a very soft purr, when she’s curled up near my head and her content breathing turns into a soft, steady, quiet purr, it brings me so much joy…

6. What sound or noise do you hate? The sound the subway makes as it’s pulling out of the station; while I’m stuck at the turnstile.

7. What is your favorite curse word? Cock-sucker!

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Librarian. (Full disclosure – this was one of Kat’s answers, but I’ve always wanted to be a part of the library sciences.)

9. What profession would you not like to do? Any of the jobs I currently have…if I never have to work in the customer service field again it’ll be to soon…

10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say at the Pearly Gates? “You done did good.”

Who know, maybe it’ll evolve into the next annoying Facebook meme…

The Paradoxical Commandments

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

This was written by author Dan Millman, when he was a nineteen year-old college sophomore:

The Paradoxical Commandments

  1. People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway.
  2. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway.
  3. If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
  4. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do it anyway.
  5. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.
  6. The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds. Think big anyway.
  7. People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
  8. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
  9. People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anyway.
  10. Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway.

The Paradoxical Commandments are guidelines for finding personal meaning in the face of adversity. The paradox is this: even when things are tough — even when the world is crazy — we can still find personal meaning and deep happiness. We do that by facing the worst in the world with the best in ourselves. We do that by living a paradoxical life.

I’ve Been Tagged…

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

My friend Dan – who I was just thinking about, since he’s a new father and I was wondering if he was planning to come visit Santa with  -  posts some pretty nifty blogs tagged me. Because I think he’s kinda awesome – and I had a little crush on him before he was married, I’ll play along.

Once you’ve been tagged, you have to write a blog with 10 weird, random things, facts, habits, or goals about yourself.

So here goes – ten random facts you may not know about Vinnie – which is harder than you’d think, since I love talking about myself and you probably know it all already.

  1. I started balding at 18 years of age, wearing a hair piece at 22 and went fully shaved at 25. The money I’ve saved on hair care products the past fifteen years has to be in the thousands.
  2. I started smoking again and I hate myself for it.
  3. Extreme Make-Over makes me cry every time I catch it, and I seem to catch it a lot…but it’s not like it’s on my Tivo or anything.
  4. I make more money working two nights at the Duplex than I made working 50+ hours at DC Comics.
  5. I own the Space 1999 Megaset.
  6. I own 18 pairs of Puma cats paw sneakers – and I want more!
  7. I didn’t get my picture taken for my Niagara University Year Book, I’m in four others from various theatre productions, but no posed head and shoulders shot.
  8. While I rarely feel lonely, I often feel alone.
  9. I want adventure in the great wide somewhere, I want it more that words can tell…
  10. Molly, my first baby is named after Molly McButter, at the time she came into my life I was highly lactose intolerant.

I tag my five favorite bloggers:
